ZAMBIA
Age of Animal
To travel to Zambia, your pet must be at least 4 months or older. They need their own Rabies vaccination, which can be given at 12 weeks. Puppies and kittens may travel under their mother’s Rabies vaccination, provided the mother was vaccinated against Rabies while she was pregnant.
Microchip
Your pet must be microchipped. The microchip should be implanted either before or at the same time as the Rabies vaccination.
Rabies Vaccination
Your pet’s Rabies vaccination must be at least 31 days old but no more than one year old. OR not older than 3 years for pets that have received 3 consecutive annual booster vaccinations. The Rabies vaccinations need to be of the same brand.
Annual Vaccinations
Annual vaccinations are recommended and must be older than 30 days but not older than one year upon arrival. If your pet needs boarding or kenneling before or after travel, all reputable kennels will require proof of a valid vaccination.
For Dogs: Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, and Canine Parvovirus,
Canine Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough), Leptospirosis.
For Cats: Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis), Feline Respiratory Disease Complex, and Feline Leukemia. Snuffles vaccinations for cats are also highly recommended.
Import Permit
An Import Permit is required for Zambia. To apply for the import permit, you'll need a letter from your vet confirming that your pet is healthy, fit to travel, and fully vaccinated.
Health Certificate
Your pet must have a Health Certificate issued by a private veterinarian, confirming compliance with the above requirements, and countersigned by the State Vet. This must be done within 48 hours of departure. Internal and external parasite treatment is needed one week prior to shipment. We provide our clients with a completed and accurate Health Certificate, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done.
