Age of Animal
Puppies and kittens older than 8 weeks can travel to Kenya on their mother’s valid rabies vaccination.
Microchip
Your pet must be microchipped. The microchip should be implanted either before or at the same time as the Rabies vaccination. Only a microchip implanted by an official, registered veterinarian will be accepted for export purposes.
Rabies Vaccination
Your pet’s Rabies vaccination must be at least 31 days old but no more than one year old. A yearly booster vaccination is required.
Annual Vaccinations
Annual vaccinations for dogs and cats are recommended. The vaccinations must be older than 30 days but not older than one year upon arrival. A valid vaccination certificate will be necessary if your pet requires boarding or kenneling before or after travel.
For Dogs: Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough).
For Cats: Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis/Feline Distemper), Feline Rhinotracheitis, and Feline Calicivirus.
Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT)
The blood sample must be taken at least 30 to 31 days after the rabies vaccination. The Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test should show a positive result of at least 0.5 IU/ml. The blood test needs to be older than 3 months but not older than 24 months before shipment.
OR
If your pet hasn’t been vaccinated against rabies or does not meet the conditions set out in points 2, 3, and 4 above, the Kenyan authorities may require the animals to be placed in a quarantine station for up to 6 months at the owner's expense.
Import Permit
An Import Permit is required for pets travelling to Kenya.
Health Certificate
Your pet must have an Official Health Certificate issued by a private veterinarian, confirming compliance with the above requirements, and countersigned by the State Vet. This must be done within 48 hours of departure. We provide our clients with a completed and accurate Health Certificate, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done.
